SAP TechEd 2025, Day 2: AI builds apps while you watch

Ray Heirath

Day two of TechEd 2025. The Development Keynote was on the agenda. This is what we came for.

Consultancy nerds, SAP über-nerds, developer advocates, live demos, and compelling examples. Rich Heilmann and Thomas Jung kept things running smoothly. DJ Adams, Josh “Bluebeard” Bentley, Nora van Thenen, and others provided support. It was all very well organized.

Two prompts, one working app

It started immediately. AI generated a working CAP application live. This was followed by a Fiori app. Moments later, a complete application with services and UI was running. Two simple prompts. That’s all.

Distribute events between cloud components

The SAP Cloud Application Event Hub came along. It distributes events within the SAP landscape between cloud components. Demonstrated live. The integration with the CAP application was shown. Our integration hearts beat faster.

AI checks tutorials

Nora van Thenen demonstrated an AI solution that monitored an SAP tutorial. The applications opened. The steps appeared on screen. The AI agent went through them live. A deliberate error was recognized and written down. It was great to see what AI can do.

Developing Joule AI agents

SAP Build Joule Studio is available for Joule skills. Starting at the end of 2025, you will be able to develop and manage your own Joule AI agents. We have been waiting for this for a while. It’s almost here.

ABAP in Visual Studio Code

ABAP development from Visual Studio Code is coming soon. A single interface for all your SAP development. Support for countless plug-ins. Expected release date: Q2 2026. We can’t wait.

An inspiring, innovative keynote. Concise and well-presented.

Afternoon: get started yourself

The sessions began. The focus was on the functional aspect.

The first session was about Clean Core with SAP Build and the SAP Application Extension Methodology. We were allowed to try it out for ourselves. We created a process with Process Automation. Then we built a Fiori app that calls up and executes that process.

This complies with Level A of the Clean Core Extensibility standards. For functional consultants, this is an important guideline. It determines which type of extension is valid.

After lunch, there was a session on hybrid extensions. A standard Fiori app on-stack extended with Joule. One prompt. Done. It was great to see how easy this is.

The finale: generating a CDS View via Business Application Studio. The user interface builds itself automatically. 25 minutes. No lines of code. But a complete app. It was a simple application, but its power is clear.

Shut-off valve with beer

The day ended on a festive note. SAP party with great music, beer, and delicious food. A wonderful way to end an inspiring day.
